Weaving is a technique in making cloth which is made with a simple principle, namely by combining threads lengthwise and transversely. In other words, alternating between warp and weft yarns. Woven fabrics are usually made of wood fibers, cotton, silk, and others.

The manufacture of this woven fabric is commonly done in Indonesia, especially in the areas of Java, Sumatra, and Kalimantan. Usually the production of woven fabrics is made on a household scale. Some areas that are famous for their woven fabric production are West Sumatra, Palembang, and West Java.

The art of weaving is closely related to the system of knowledge, culture, belief, the natural environment, and the system of social organization in society. Because the social culture in society is diverse, the art of weaving in each region has differences. Therefore, the art of weaving in society is always particular or has a characteristic, and is part of the cultural representation of that society. The quality of the woven is usually seen from the quality of the material, the beauty of the colors, motifs, patterns and various decorations.
