Batik

Batik has a long history, where every pattern or motif contains a philosophy or meaning that is so thick with life values. Therefore, Batik can be said as one of the extraordinary masterpieces. The storyline in it, makes Batik have a high value. Batik is the art of painting on cloth by scratching wax on a tool called canting. Batik in Indonesia is believed to have existed since the time of the Majapahit Kingdom, then expanded to various regions and especially to the island of Java after the end of the 18th century or the beginning of the 19th century. Although the name batik comes from the Javanese language, the batik technique is thought to have originated in Ancient Egypt or Sumer more than 1,000 years ago. Techniques similar to batik also penetrated China, India, Japan, Africa, and Senegal thousands of years ago, to Indonesia. The tradition of batik was originally a hereditary tradition, so that sometimes a motif can be recognized as coming from a certain family batik. Some batik may indicate the status of a person. Even today, some traditional batik motifs are only used by the royal families of Yogyakarta and Surakarta.
